For your consideration, a pair of fine copies of the Linotype Caledonia.
Both the hard cover and soft cover editions issued in 1939 of W.A. Dwiggins Caledonia type face. The soft cover has only a few minor bends to the cover wrapped, but no soiling nor tears. The hardcover comes in its original glassine, and is fine in every respect.
Modeled after a Scotch Roman, it proved wildly popular in American book publishing for its readability.
One again, Dwiggins calls upon his alter ego Hermann Püterschein to provide an essay on the design and the designer.
The essay provides an encapsulated history of the origins of Caledonia and provides a glimpse into Dwiggins methodology for drawing letterforms at the time. It's instructional for anyone who loves type, or is engaged in the designing and making of digital type for the insights it provides on process.
