For your consideration, a near fine copy of the slim volume “Certaine Sonets” designed by Bruce Rogers and printed by hand at the Riverside Press, the captive printing plant of Houghton, Mifflin, in 1904.
Printed by hand in an edition of 430 copies in Caslon Italic on handmade paper watermarked “Unbleached Arnold.” Quarter bound in vellum and burgundy lacquered paper with gilt spine stamping and Sydney's coat of arms on front and back.
The title page art was drawn by Rogers and printed in green with text in black. A genuinely handsome production, it harkens back to the architectural title pages of William Pickering who both Houghton, and Mifflin held in high esteem.
Riverside Press Edition no. 23.
No previous owner's marks. Solid joints and hinges, square corners, and tight bright text block. This copy lacks its slipcase, but is otherwise fine and is priced accordingly.
